Make a photoshop Brush

On my previous blog i wrote on about How to make brush on illustrator, and now i  will share about how to make brush on photoshop. Different from illustrator, on photoshop we can use the image as a material for making brushes. Here is the way to making that.

If you want to make a brush that is “High-Res,” you will need Photoshop CS2+. In CS2 and CS3 you can make brushes up to 2500px in size. (height or width) In Previous versions like CS, 1000px is the limit. (and maybe much smaller for really old versions, I’m not sure).

You may have an image to make a brush. Like a Scanned image, a photograph, or whatever is it. But if you want you can use my image reference. In this tutorial i will use my reference image. You not need a high brush, but the best way is you make a brush as large as you want. In CS2 or the latest one you can make brush size about 2500 x2500 px and the oldest you only can use image whith resolution 999px, if not less.

Step 1
Open your image that have you prepared (File>Open or Ctrl+O)

 Step 2
Adjust your image with the image adjuster. there is five way to adjust your image. All find on adjustment menu (Image>adjustment....).

Levels

Curves

Exposure

Shadows/Highlights

Brightness/Contrast
 Step 3
Now when you have the right amount of brightness and contrast or black/white your image you're ready to make a brush. Make sure you select the layer of your image then Select all (Ctrl+A) then go to Edit>define brush preset.

Name your brush and you are done...

You should now see your new brush show up in the brushes palette.
